A short time ago we completed a slate master bathroom in Erie, Colorado. The bathroom consisted of a new deck for a jacuzzi tub, slate floor, slate wainscot and shower.
The slate consisted of gauged and honed material in a darker mixed earth colors with green overtones. Gauged stone means that it is cut to a consistent thickness and honed indicates that the face of the slate is finished with a flat surface rather than an unfinished, rough surface.
The floor contains in-floor heating that also runs into the shower floor and up onto the bench in the shower itself. Yes, you can have in-floor heating in your shower! Over the heating element on the bathroom floor we installed Schluter Ditra underlayment membrane, then the slate.
The shower is a full kerdi shower installation with the tile continuing up to the vaulted ceiling on one side and a mountain silhouette or relief cut on the other. The homeowner actually drew the shape of the silhouette on cardboard and I cut it out of the slate above the shower head.
The outside edge of the shower wall as well as the top of the wainscot is finished with Schluter Rondec in a Tuscan bronze finish. This is a metal finishing edge for tile and stone and is available in several different colors and styles to give an installation a clean, finished look rather than just unfinished tile along the top.
If you need a tile installation with that custom touch just give us a call or fill out our contact form to discuss your project. We can create just about any shape or design you can envision. Bring that vision to life!

I recently completed a small basement bathroom remodel in Loveland, Colorado. The existing shower tile was removed and the walls rebuilt and covered with durock cementious backerboard. The existing shower floor waterproofing was questionable so rather than tear it completely out and rebuilding the homeowner opted to just have a topical waterproofing applied to the…
I’ve recently remodeled two bathroom floors in Erie, CO with two inch octagonal mosaic tile with a small black diamonds or ‘dots’. The two bathroom floors had vinyl flooring. I removed the vinyl and wooden baseboards in both bathrooms and installed a decoupling membrane, the mosaics, and four inch high ‘cove’ tile for the wall…
I recently finished a kitchen floor in Loveland, Colorado. It is 16 x 16 inch porcelain tiles with 4 x 4 inch inserts installed in a “pinwheel” pattern. The 4″ x 4″ inserts were cut from full-size 12 x 12 inch porcelain tiles. The tile was installed over fiberboard underlayment. Against the wood floor I…
I just finished up a complete Kerdi shower installation in Fort Collins, CO. The homeowner initially called me due to some swelling around the end of the tub along the shower wall. Upon further inspection we discovered that area (the half-wall) was not properly waterproofed and the moisture migrating behind the tile started to soak…
We recently finished up a master bathroom remodel in Fort Collins. We began the shower construction with Durock cement board on the walls and a custom shower pan with the kerdi drain. The waterproofing was completed on the walls and floor with Schluter kerdi waterproofing membrane (the orange stuff). Building a shower in this manner…
I have been asked a couple of times about some of the photos on other pages of my site and the type of tile, application, project, etc. I was, at first, a bit apprehensive about placing them on my blog for a couple of reasons. The biggest of which is before I recreated my website…
