A short time ago we completed a slate master bathroom in Erie, Colorado. The bathroom consisted of a new deck for a jacuzzi tub, slate floor, slate wainscot and shower.
The slate consisted of gauged and honed material in a darker mixed earth colors with green overtones. Gauged stone means that it is cut to a consistent thickness and honed indicates that the face of the slate is finished with a flat surface rather than an unfinished, rough surface.
The floor contains in-floor heating that also runs into the shower floor and up onto the bench in the shower itself. Yes, you can have in-floor heating in your shower! Over the heating element on the bathroom floor we installed Schluter Ditra underlayment membrane, then the slate.
The shower is a full kerdi shower installation with the tile continuing up to the vaulted ceiling on one side and a mountain silhouette or relief cut on the other. The homeowner actually drew the shape of the silhouette on cardboard and I cut it out of the slate above the shower head.
The outside edge of the shower wall as well as the top of the wainscot is finished with Schluter Rondec in a Tuscan bronze finish. This is a metal finishing edge for tile and stone and is available in several different colors and styles to give an installation a clean, finished look rather than just unfinished tile along the top.
If you need a tile installation with that custom touch just give us a call or fill out our contact form to discuss your project. We can create just about any shape or design you can envision. Bring that vision to life!

I just finished up a complete Kerdi shower installation in Fort Collins, CO. The homeowner initially called me due to some swelling around the end of the tub along the shower wall. Upon further inspection we discovered that area (the half-wall) was not properly waterproofed and the moisture migrating behind the tile started to soak…
With the recent economic situation people have begun a major shift in their mindset about home ownership. Where there was once a large ‘fix-and-flip’ mentality there is now a growing realization that houses actually make great homes! Rather than viewing property as a short-term investment people are beginning to seek out viable long-term upgrade projects…
My last blog post mentioned the recent Staron vanity countertops we installed in Fort Collins. I have received a couple of emails requesting more information about this product so I’ve decided to write up a quick post regarding the Staron as well as a couple of like options. Staron is a hard-surface product used for…
We’ve recently completed a glass tile shower in Fort Collins. The shower itself is fairly small, just 3 x 3 feet, so the decision to use a lighter colored glass mosaic really added quite a bit lighter and more open feel to the small space. This shower was waterproofed with Laticrete Hydroban waterproofing membrane and…
I recently finished up a kitchen remodel in Fort Collins. We replaced the outdated (1960’s!) laminate countertops with granite tile, added a glass backsplash, new sink and fixtures, stove, hood and dishwasher. We began by completely removing the old countertops and rebuilding with new solid plywood substrates. Over the plywood we added Schluter Ditra and…
I’ve recently completed a kitchen backsplash remodel with Florida Tile’s Urbanite Stone 6×18 Stratus Listello porcelain mosaics (think they could give that tile a longer name? 😀 ) with Florida Tile’s ‘Jeffery Court’ glass mosaics as an accent. The previous backsplash consisted of 6 x 8 inch ceramic wall tile which was installed when the…
